Rangers rejected a last minute bid for Alfredo Morelos as the transfer window was about to close with reports circulating of an offer from Serie A.

The Scottish Sun claimed that Torino made a late offer for the Colombian international that included an initial loan with an option to buy – the conversation wouldn’t have been a long one when rejecting that one.

The Light Blues had at one point looked certain to sell Morelos to Lille with the Ligue 1 side having a confirmed bid of £16million knocked back only to then be hit by Financial Fair Play regulations which appear to have scuppered any further offers.

Ross Wilson has done well this transfer window, the price tag was set for El Bufalo, it would have been easy to have accepted any of the – what would have been – record breaking deals but he is aware that a precedent will be made when Morelos does eventually leave, his fee will have a knock on effect on the likes of Ryan Kent or Borna Barisic when they eventually move on.

Can Morelos fire Rangers to 55?

Yes

Yes

No

No

It’s reassuring on two fronts, we obviously don’t need the money or the first sizeable amount on the table would have been accepted, secondly, we know that we have a sporting director that knows what he is doing and will always have the club’s best interests at heart.

Rangers go into the next block of fixtures with as strong a squad as they have had for ten years, starting with an Old Firm derby against Celtic – if the governing body doesn’t bend the rules once again following the revelation that Odsonne Edouard has tested positive for Covid-19 – I’ll not hold my breath.
