Alfredo Morelos may have been close to the exit at Rangers this summer but now that the window is shut, his sole focus must be entirely on playing a starring role for the Light Blues.

Speaking to Football Insider, BBC 5 Live pundit, Danny Mills, believes that he could yet get his big money move but only on one condition.

So what has Mills said?

When asked to reflect on the transfer saga of the summer, he said:

“Rangers have Europa League football and that is a big reason for players to stay.“Morelos’ exit may have fell down for a number of different reasons and I am sure Steven Gerrard will now say, ‘Look, you are here. You are staying here now so you may as well make the best of it.’

“If a player wants to move the best thing to do is play your heart out, work your socks off, score goals and then somebody might come with that mega-money move in January or next summer. Then he may get that move.

“If he does not play, teams will not come in for him. It is in his hands. As a player you might be disgruntled for two or three weeks but then you get your head around it and knuckle down.”

So is Mills correct?

Absolutely, for all that Morelos has still been full of endeavour, he hasn’t looked himself of late and is clearly distracted, he hasn’t downed tools by any stretch of the imagination but he has a few gears yet to go before he hits top speed.

Are you happy Morelos stayed?

Yes

Yes

No

No

If he produces a full season similar to the first-half of last term, he should be looking at Champions League clubs for his next destination and teams competing for titles, not mid-table ones in better leagues.

The only downside to him staying in this window is that in January it could all be repeated again, especially if he rediscovers his form, but as Mills said, this will only happen if he “knuckles down” and starts firing on all cylinders again – something that all Rangers fans would love to see.
