One time, Rangers ‘target’ Jack Wilshere has agreed a short-term deal with English Championship side Bournemouth in a move that will end speculation that he could be heading for Ibrox.

A six-month deal has been agreed with the player and the Cherries as the 29 year old seeks to rebuild his career and reputation, amid ongoing doubts over his long term fitness and availability on the pitch.

Toward the end of last year when Wilshere was a free agent there was plenty of talk about him heading north and whilst he did admit to the lure of playing under Steven Gerrard, the former Arsenal man also disregarded the thought of playing for the Gers and in the Scottish Premiership.

As reported by the Scottish Sun, he said, “It would interest me because it’s Steven Gerrard and that’s no disrespect to Scotland.”

“My grandad married a Scottish woman 30 years ago. She’s my nan and that’s what I’ve known growing up.”

“I’ve read all the rumours, but there’s honestly been no contact.”

“I played with Gerrard for England, I watched him growing up. He was one of my heroes growing up and he’s a legend.”

“Playing there never crossed my mind, but now Gerrard’s there the door definitely isn’t closed – but it wouldn’t be my first choice.”

Many Rangers fans felt that these comments were disrespectful but it is an irrelevance now as Jack Wilshere has joined the club where he spent the 2016/17 campaign on loan, making 29 appearances.

The deal is expected to be confirmed by Bournemouth later today.
