Rangers are targeting Gillingham forward Tom Eaves ahead of the January transfer window, as reported by Sky Sports.

The 26-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season and he’s already indicated he won’t be signing a new deal at the League One outfit.

Currently rated at £90,000 by Transfermarkt, he may not appear to be the most glamorous of acquisitions but there is evidence he could be effective in the final third for the Gers, at Scottish Premiership level anyway.

He’s scored 13 goals for the Gills this season, helping them stay clear of the relegation zone in the early stages of the season.

That’s coming off the back of a 18 goal campaign last term, demonstrating he has the ability to knock in goals on a regular basis for Rangers.

Tall at 6ft 3ins, he looks to be a player that fits a similar profile to Kyle Lafferty, with Gerrard perhaps looking for a more effective plan B to Alfredo Morelos than the Northern Ireland international.

Given the potential fees involved it would be relatively risk free and since he is scoring on a regular basis, he is surely a more viable back-up than on-loan Roma flop Umar Sadiq?
