Rangers sweating on injury to first-team star that could rule him out of Celtic Park visit

|

Rangers defender Borna Barisic is an injury doubt for next week’s visit to Celtic Park to face Neil Lennon’s Hoops side after limping off during Croatian international duty, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

The left-back played all 90 minutes of Thursday’s home qualifying win over Azerbaijan, even getting himself on the scoresheet, and was again selected for Croatia earlier against Hungary this evening.

However, he had to be substituted off just half an hour in after picking up a knock and although the severity of the problem is not yet known, it was clearly serious enough for him not to continue.

With just seven days to go to the upcoming Celtic clash, there are now doubts about his availability for the crucial Scottish Premiership match.

Barisic’s debut season at Ibrox has been dogged by fitness issues and he’s getting a reputation for being injury prone, which will clearly not be lessened by tonight’s problem.

The 26-year-old has received criticism for his recent performances for the Gers, but fans had hoped his recent international goal would fill him with renewed confidence.

If he’s struggling, it seems likely that Steven Gerrard will now turn to Andy Halliday to play at left-back for the Old Firm derby.
