Ibrox winger Ryan Kent has been advised to stay at Rangers this summer by ex-Gers man Mark Walters, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

Walters of course has experience of playing for both the Gers and the Reds having made the switch from the club to Anfield way back in 1991.

The 54-year-old believes that Kent will be much better served if he signs for Steven Gerrard again this summer and gets the regular first-team football he needs to further develop.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, Walters said:

I don’t care how good a player you are, if you’re not playing regularly then you can’t fulfil your promise. It’s better for Ryan to be with a manager who has trust in him. Being picked is the best way to know the boss has confidence in you.

Ryan knows Steven Gerrard likes him and trusts him. He knows what he’s about from their Liverpool days. For Ryan’s development, I think he should stay at Rangers beyond this season.

He has a contract at Liverpool, but if he tells them he wants to leave then most clubs don’t want unhappy players on their books.

If he thinks he’s come as far as he can at Liverpool I’m sure they’d let him move elsewhere. He’s not the type to be disruptive but he has to think of his own career.

Kent’s loan at Ibrox expires at the end of this season and his current deal at Liverpool does not expire for another three years, making any permanent switch to the Scottish Premiership difficult.

Now 22, the Reds may be looking to recoup some sort of fee for the player now he is entering a new phase of his career and as we know, the Gers don’t have massive resources.

Still, it’s a move that simply must be explored by the recruitment team at Ibrox and as Walters points out, if Kent is happy and pushes for the move, then anything is possible.
