Gerrard with January decision to make after “honest” transfer revelation

|

Steven Gerrard has some decisions to make over the next few weeks with regards to the shape of his squad for a potential title fight in the second half of what is sure to be a long and nerve wracking season.

The Rangers boss has revealed that there will be players heading out the door in January as he looks to get those who aren’t contributing to the first-team game time and off the wage bill, as reported by Glasgow Live:

“There will be a few who go out because they need to play, ones who haven’t had much game time. I need to be honest and respectful with a couple in the next few weeks.

“But Thursday night’s financial gain (qualifying for Europa League knockout rounds) doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll go into the market for potential signings.

“We’re really happy with the squad at the moment. If something of interest becomes available, we’d obviously discuss it because myself and the board are on the same page.

“But the result on Thursday doesn’t push it in either direction. There’s no getting away from the fact that the boys here now have started the season really well. I think we’ve actually gone beyond that now.

“We’re in the middle of December and they’re continually pushing the boundaries. I’d have certainly taken this and signed up to it before a ball was kicked.

“And where we are at this moment, everyone wants to knock us out of our stride.”

The squad, despite the number of games being played, still has a fresh look to it because the same players aren’t playing week in, week out, being able to rotate all over the park and give players a rest when it is needed without any drop in quality.

Do we need any new players in January?

Yes

Yes

No

No

It would still be a surprise if there isn’t at least one new face through the door in January though but much will depend on those that leave, it could be that we either bring in a loan player or two or the only deals done are ones in preparation for next season, either way, Ross Wilson has shown that he knows what he is doing and is a man to be trusted to get the best for Rangers.
