Steven Gerrard has given a transfer update ahead of the January transfer window opening, hinting that there could be more departures for players not making the grade at high flying Rangers.

Speaking on Rangers TV, the Gers gaffer also alluded to potential arrivals as he looks to maintain the momentum that has been built up since the season started.

When asked about the likelihood of seeing any new faces over the coming weeks, he said:

“We’re always surfing, looking at players and talent and potential signings that could come in and help us, that never stops.

“I’m happy with where we are in terms of volume and in terms of the quality we’ve got in the squad, but if something becomes available that suits us from a financial point of view, and we think they will help the group in the second half of the season, we’ll go and try to make that happen.”

“I predict there’ll be a few more going the opposite way than actually coming in the door. I don’t think we need a number of incomings, but we might need maybe one or two to try and freshen it up.

“But they have to be good players that we think can improve the XI and improve the group, otherwise there’s not really any point in making them.”

Gerrard has been able to rotate his squad to good effect this season and added depth throughout the squad, Ross Wilson has always spoken about adding the right players at the right price – if they are available – but it is a luxury to not have to sign anyone.

Who scored Rangers first competitive goal of the season?

It may be that pre-contracts are targeted for players that could replace those approaching the end of their careers or the likes of Glen Kamara and Alfredo Morelos who have attracted interest in the past, either way, Rangers fans will be excited at the prospect of adding quality to a squad that has yet to lose a game this season.
