Connor Goldson may have got the headlines after his two goal display that won the Old Firm derby on Saturday but it has been another of Steven Gerrard’s stars that has been attracting the plaudits.

Both Brian Laudrup and Alan Hutton amongst others have been vocal in their praise of Glen Kamara after the Finland international put in a stunning display in both defence and attack, demonstrating perfectly what he is capable of on the big occasion.

In the build up to tonight’s clash with Standard Liege, Gerrard,as reportd by The Scotsman was asked if there was any news on a new contract for the 23-year old with interest only likely to intensify given the midfielder’s outstanding start to the season:

“I don’t know is the answer to your question. If it was my decision the answer would be yes.

“I’ve made my feelings known to Ross (Wilson, sporting director) and the board on that situation.

“Glen has been fantastic for me since day one. He’s grown and he’s evolved. He’s improved and he’s listened. There were different areas of his game that we felt we could shape and help him become a better player.

“But he is the one who has really gone out and worked on his game both in and out of possession. He’s in a fantastic place and is playing with confidence.

“He was superb at the weekend but for me he has been really consistent for much longer than that.
“We want Glen around us for as long as possible and everyone knows my feelings on that situation.”
Premier League sides have been credited with an interest in Kamara before with a valuation around the £8-10million mark, however, if Olivier Ntcham across the city is being pimped out for nearer £15m, Rangers seriously have to inflate the figure that it would take to prise the £50k signing from Dundee away from Ibrox.
He has always been positionally sound and adept at winning back possession but it is his new found desire to beat players and dribble out of trouble that is catching the eye, he frequently tormented the Celtic midfield to the extent that Scott Brown was last seen trying to pay to get his way back into Parkhead.

Is Kamara one of the first names on the team-sheet just now?

Yes

Yes

No

No
The gaffer is right, if Kamara can maintain the level of consistency that he is currently displaying, we have some player on our hands and what better place for him to learn than under the tutelage of one of England’s finest ever midfielders.
