Rangers take on Standard Liege tonight at the magnificently named Stade Maurice Dufrasne buoyed from as easy an Old Firm win as you are ever likely to see.

Steven Gerrard is getting close to having a fully fit squad available for selection with just Niko Katic on the long-term treatment couch, there hasn’t been any issues reported from the Celtic game but much of that will be due to the opposition barely laying a glove on the Light Blues.

Joe Aribo made a cameo appearance on Saturday and it was a welcome return to the first team for a player that had been on fire in both pre-season and the early stages of competitive games, Kemar Roofe is also expected to be seen in the squad sooner rather than later having also resumed full training.

The Gers gaffer has not yet been able to field all of his best players together and will be excited at the prospect of having Alfredo Morelos and Roofe lining up together, the latter’s flexibility and skillset gives Gerrard the option of playing him in a deeper, supporting role – El Bufalo is also capable of rotating into a wider position as has been seen with his recent international appearances.

Ianis Hagi sat out the whole game against Celtic after returning from action with Romania, finally Rangers are able to pick the most suitable players for the task in hand rather than relying on the same group over and over again, the Europa League is perfect for the playmaker where his ability to find space could be the difference – with seven assists in his last seven games, fans are finally starting to see exactly what he brings to his team.

There could be the option for several of the players who went away on international duty to get rotated in this fixture, if they played against Celtic that is, Gerrard finally has the squad depth that he has longed for since he arrived at the club, time for him to trust his players and use it.
