Gers gaffer tipped for long haul as transfer strategy paints future plan

|

Steven Gerrard, after three years and five transfer windows, has finally got a squad that he can trust and although he could be forgiven for resting on his laurels, has already begun preparations for next season.

Speaking to Football Insider, former England team-mate, Paul Robinson, believes that this is a statement of intent from the Gers gaffer, with the seeds being planted for a long-term commitment.

So what has Robinson said?

When asked about the recent transfer business that has seen three promising, young players arrive, he said:

“From a Rangers point of view you would like to think that Gerrard has signed these players with a view to managing them over the next few years.

“When a manager starts looking at young players like that, he is clearly building for the future. He is putting the foundations in place to ensure that the club is successful for a number of years.

“Whether Steven stays for two, three, four or five more years, which could happen, he has certainly got the club’s best interests at heart. He is putting great foundations in.”

So is Robinson correct?

It would be nice if he is, however, much of the recruitment plan will be down to Ross Wilson, he is the one that has to make sure that there is a succession plan in place so that if the manager does leave, the squad doesn’t fall apart.

Will Gerrard be at Ibrox in five years?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Players like Glen Kamara, who was bought for peanuts and is expected to be sold for a significant fee in the summer, will see Nnamdi Ofoborh coming in to fill his boots, as tough a task as it is, the Finland international was far from the finished (sorry) article when he arrived.

Whether it is in 2, 3, or 4 years time, replacing Gerrard won’t be easy, hopefully, Wilson will have another list on his desk – just in case.
