Rangers star refuses to give up on title despite 10 point deficit to Celtic

|

Rangers midfielder Steven Davis wants the club take things one game at a time in the tail-end of the season, believing there is still a chance a title race could be ignited, as reported by The Daily Record.

The Northern Ireland has had a frustrating return to Ibrox since moving on loan from Southampton in January, making just five starts under Steven Gerrard.

He’s had to remain patient for opportunities but has looked in better form during recent appearances and could start in the heart of midfield on Sunday at Celtic Park.

The veteran recognises the title is a tall ask this season, but still has belief the team can have a strong end to the current campaign.

As quoted by The Daily Record, the 34-year-old said:

It’s obviously going to be difficult in the league this season. We have to be realistic about that but it’s important we go there and get some pride as well.

Listen, you never know in football what can happen, so we just have to go there and try to win.

The problem for us is that we haven’t shown the level of consistency this season that is required and haven’t managed to put a run of results together which was needed to put the pressure onto Celtic.

But you never know. We just need to take each game as it comes before the end of the season and see what happens.

Rangers surprised everyone during the last derby at Ibrox, producing a superb performance to stun Brendan Rodgers side in a 1-0 victory.

A similar display and result at Celtic Park this weekend would certainly raise eyebrows again given our recent form, but it would also significantly reduce the current 10 point deficit to the Hoops in the Scottish Premiership table.

Guaranteed to face them again on our own patch before the end of the season, with a seven point gap really be insurmountable?

Davis is right to hold out hope and a win on Sunday is not completely out of the question.
