‘Compare him to Luis Suarez’ – Rangers icon makes bold claim about current Ibrox star

|

Former Rangers star Michael Mols is a big fan of Alfredo Morelos, stating the Colombian reminds him of Barcelona star Luis Suarez, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

Mols made 146 appearances for Rangers between 1999 and 2004, scoring an excellent 48 goals and winning six trophies.

Regarded as one of the most talented players in the team during that time period, he knows a bit about what it takes to be a star at Ibrox.

The 48-year-old has also recently revealed he tried to sign current exciting forward Morelos up at Dutch side Utrecht, working as a scout, prior to the Colombian’s arrival in Glasgow.

He’s a massive fan of the prolific goalscorer and had some high praise for the player when speaking to the media this week.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said:

Morelos was very dangerous in the box and I compare him to Luis Suarez.

They’re both from South America and you can see the similarities in their temperament and character. It shines through in Alfredo’s game.

Having that edge can help him a lot when he plays against strong defenders but it can also hinder him. Suarez has done some stupid things, like biting people, and while Morelos hasn’t done anything like that you can see he has a habit of doing little things that can cost Rangers points.

He has obviously been sent off a few times but he has an over-my-dead-body attitude. You have to hope he will learn as he gets more mature in the way Suarez has – he doesn’t do stupid things anymore.

Morelos took another step in his development as an elite player earlier today when he started his first match for Colombia, winning his third cap overall.

He was substituted at half-time, likely in anticipation of this weekend’s big derby against Celtic, but the appearance will have done his meteoric rise no harm at all, even if he did miss one gilt-edged chance.

Tipped to be featured in this summer’s Colombian Copa America squad, he may get the chance to shine at a major tournament, with his inclusion in part due to his phenomenal 29-goal return so far this season.

Mols is right to lavish praise on him and hopefully we see him stay at Ibrox for a long time to come.
