Colombia boss Carlos Queiroz has hailed Rangers star Alfredo Morelos as ‘the future’ of Colombian football after selecting him for upcoming friendlies against South Korea and Japan.

The Rangers striker admitted at the weekend he was worried about not being selected for the national team having been snubbed for October friendlies, but it appears Queiroz is ready to have another good look at what he can offer his side.

Morelos wasn’t just selected, but also heavily praised by the former Manchester United assistant manager.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the 66-year-old said:

I called up Alfredo Morelos because he is in very good form for Rangers as you can see with the number of goals he has scored.

I wanted to give Alfredo a chance. He’s young and is the future of football in Colombia.

Carlos Bacca is not out of my plans at all, but I wanted to take a good look at Alfredo in these games. I haven’t closed the door on Carlos.

I need to look to the future and Alfredo is young and represents that.

The fact Morelos has kept a player as talented Carlos Bacca out of the squad is incredibly promising and Morelos must be heartened that his reputation at national team level is strong, even though he plays in a less illustrious league.

With 28 goals and 11 assists this season, there’s no doubt he has the talent to take his game to the next level, even if he did frustrated fans with his performance against Aberdeen last night.

We’ll be watching keenly to see what he can do with his national team during the upcoming friendlies.
