Away from the nonsense that is transfer deadline day, Rangers will have been preparing to take on St Johnstone at Ibrox on Wednesday night as they look to take another step closer to the Scottish Premiership title.

Callum Davidson has impressed in his debut season as a manager and, if he can attract a more consistent goal scorer to Perth, he could well trouble the European places. He has a definite plan that appears only to be let down by a less-than-reliable keeper and goal shy forwards.

We needed an excellent team goal and a worldie free-kick from Borna Barisic to beat them at Ibrox earlier in the season – 3-0 certainly wasn’t a reflection of the game – and we should expect another tough encounter with our centre-halves and Steven Davis getting less time on the ball than they have been used to recently.

The Saints came from 2-0 down against Kilmarnock to win 3-2 at the weekend, a result that cost Alex Dyer his job, and shouldn’t be under estimated, for some strange reason though we haven’t been at our fluent best when we have had a week to prepare for games, hopefully we will see the Ross County tempo rather than the Motherwell struggle.

Have you been impressed with Davidson's first season?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The fixture comes too early for Scott Arfield and, other than long-term absentee Niko Katic and the suspended Alfredo Morelos, we have a fully fit squad to choose from, Ianis Hagi could come back in after being unlucky to miss out against Hibs.

Control the ball, control the tempo, no complacency and three points should be ours, sounds easy doesn’t it?
