Rangers will be looking to cross another bridge on their way towards immortality this week with St Johnstone coming to Ibrox and another three points top of the agenda.

Steven Gerrard’s squad is in decent shape with Europa League football on the horizon and with such a comfortable lead in the league, one wonders if he will have one eye on Royal Antwerp.

We are now in a position where we can trust anyone to come into the team and do a job, Cedric Itten has been quality recently and still can’t buy a starting jersey, I have to be honest, I’m almost looking forward to when Alfredo Morelos leaves so we can see what he is truly capable of with a run of games.

This is the team I think Gerrard will go with:

Alfredo Morelos may have scored the winner against Hibs but the story could have been different and only he will know if he deliberately stamped on Ryan Porteous, personally, at full speed, it doesn’t look intentional but that’s another story – Rangers accepted the three game suspension and others will now get their chance.

Steven Davis – a possible player of the year contender – deserves an extended rest, it’s now about managing his minutes going into the run-in and Ryan Jack has come back into the team with a renewed vigour, we have also played some of our best football with the Scotland international as our deep-lying midfielder.

With Alec Cleland hinting that St Johnstone will look to nullify the threat from Borna Barisic and James Tavernier, picking a front three that are mobile and all good at finding space centrally could be the difference.

It’ll be a hard game, Callum Davidson’s side are no mugs but we should have enough at both ends of the park – and on the bench – to ensure a comfortable win and tick off another box on our way to the title.
