Brian Laudrup has been one of the more vocal defenders of Alfredo Morelos this season, even when his goal scoring form suffered a drop in it’s usual high standards.

Writing in his Daily Mail column, and reported by Glasgow Live, the Danish legend reckons that the Colombian international’s return to prominence could have come at just the right time as Rangers look to keep the foot down on Celtic’s waining title chances:

“Alfredo Morelos might just have picked his moment perfectly.

“His return to potent form could be vital both in terms of driving Rangers over the line in the Premiership and what lies beyond in the summer transfer market. On a personal level, the chance is now there for Morelos to secure his legacy at Ibrox beyond any dispute.

“What I saw at Pittodrie on Sunday was the Morelos of old. All the elements you want from him were there. He took his goals superbly.

“It needs more than one game, of course, but if this is the start of a real renaissance, then so much praise would have to go to Steven Gerrard. The way he has handled Morelos over recent months could yet prove a masterstroke in management.”

It has almost been unanimous amongst pundits and Rangers fans alike that Morelos’s play outside the box has been as good as it has ever been, he was just lacking a bit of luck in front of goal.

If Morelos scores the goals to win league is he a legend?

No

The only difference between the 2-1 win over Aberdeen and the 1-0 win over Celtic is that his efforts were blocked in the Old Firm derby, both of which were heading towards the back of the net, his two goals at Pittodrie were textbook El Bufalo and his manager was clearly delighted to have his talisman back on song.

With speculation linking him away from the club in every window since Steven Gerrard arrived, he has done well to manage a player who has never been far away from the headlines on both the front and back of the papers – that both their legacies are intertwined won’t be lost as they both head for Rangers immortality.
