There is no black-and-white way to play football, and no guarantees that a certain style trumps all, however, every Rangers fan knows exactly the sort of issue that we face on a weekly basis.
If the “shortlist” is to be believed, Michael Beale, Sean Dyche and Kjetil Knutsen are the frontrunners to replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst and, if you haven’t noticed, they all have completely different approaches to the game. Whether you see this as a negative or a positive is very much down to your own disposition.
The name that sticks out is Dyche. Known for being no-nonsense, working on a budget and playing the type of football that we usually see from opposition teams so it would be a surprise if he is a genuine contender, however, according to Football Insider, the former Burnley and Watford boss is entertaining the idea of heading north:
“Sean Dyche is interested in speaking to Rangers about the newly-vacant manager’s job, sources have told Football Insider.
“The 51-year-old has been without a job since being sacked by Burnley in April after an outstanding nine-and-a-half year spell in which they were an established Premier League club.
“Dyche has publicly made it clear he wants to get back into management and is believed, well-placed sources tell us, to be “very keen” on talking to Rangers.”
It would certainly be different.
There is, genuinely, no real way of knowing what we would get from a Dyche Rangers team because he has never managed this type of club. Even when he was getting promoted out of the Championship, it is hardly a league conducive to attractive football.
There’s no doubt that Dyche is a good man manager and has a real presence about him, Rangers has always been just about winning, maybe a return to this mindset is more important than style after all – although a reported approach for Michael Beale might change all that.
