Gers transfer latest as report details three potential pre-contract deals

After a quiet start to the transfer window for Rangers, with fans in the unique position of hoping to see a couple of new faces rather than being desperate for them, Football Insider has reported on who are the most likely arrivals.

Much of the talk has been about pre-contract deals and top of the list is Scott Wright with the gaffer revealing only last week that a deal is close to fruition, as reported by Sky Sports:

“The money men will talk and I’m sure in the conversations they will have everything on the table in terms of possibilities to try to get this done in the coming weeks.

“There is a possibility of cash up front and I don’t know where the Ross McCrorie deal lies in terms of what needs to be done and what doesn’t. But I’m sure that’s another possibility as well.”

The other two names that seem to pop up on an almost weekly basis are Preston North End pair Daniel Johnson and Ben Davies, with Vital Rangers particularly keen to see the former sign as soon as possible to provide a different dimension in attack.

Johnson was originally the subject of a £2million bid in the summer but Preston’s demands were too high for a player that can now agree a pre-contract deal and he should be top of Ross Wilson’s to-do list.

Davies on the other hand, as a centre-half, is less of a priority but given that he is also available on a Bosman in the summer, our recruitment team wouldn’t be doing their jobs if a player rated as high as £10m at one point wasn’t a target for both the short and long term.

If we can strengthen the squad and “future proof” it with pre-contract deals just now, it means that any player sales in the summer have already been covered and without any financial outlay, finally, we seem to have a transfer model that makes sense both on and off the pitch.
