So far this season Rangers have responded well to set-backs and with Kilmarnock the visitors to Ibrox today, it is the perfect opportunity to get back on track.

Unfortunately – as we found to our detriment last week – football doesn’t always work like that, and with Tommy Wright taking over as Killie’s boss, we should expect to come up against a well organised and, probably, defence minded opposition.

Steven Gerrard will be without Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos so Cedric Itten will continue through the middle but there will be a decision to make as to who supports him.

This is the team I think the gaffer will go with to get all three points:

The midfield should have been strong enough last week but, for whatever reason, failed to control the game and despite the return of the Europa League this week, I’d be shocked if at least one of Ryan Jack and Steven Davis didn’t return.

Glen Kamara has saved some of his best performances for continental football and with Jack and Davis starting on the bench against Hamilton, I’d expect the Finland international to take his turn and sit out this weekend.

In attack Ryan Kent did almost everything right other than the final ball, it didn’t help that he didn’t have his shooting boots on either, but he should be allowed the opportunity to make up for firing blanks and could form an exciting front three with Scott Wright starting his first Rangers game at Ianis Hagi’s expense.

Hagi – with 11 assists this season – is in a decent run of form but Wright’s extra pace and ability on the ball could be the difference in breaking what will no doubt be a stubborn defence, an early goal – with an even earlier second – would be greatly appreciated to allow Gerrard to  rotate ahead of Thursday and put to bed some of the nonsense we’ve seen this week.
