Gers fans would be “over the moon” if contract rumours are true

|

There have been rumours, albeit quiet ones, that Ryan Kent is close to a contract extension at Rangers, along with Alfredo Morelos, the only pressing concern on Ross Wilson’s to do list.

The 25-year old winger suffered a dip in goal scoring form but his creativity was still key to our success in the Scottish Cup and on our route to the Europa League final.

Speaking to Football Insider, former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan reckons that it would be a great move by Rangers and one that would be warmly received with his club still said to be sniffing about after a previous £10million bid was rejected:

“I think Rangers fans will be absolutely over the moon if Kent signs a new contract.

“He’s one player who is at the right age now. He’s coming into his prime years.

“He’s exciting, scores goals, assists, loads of pace – and he’s tenacious in that midfield area.

“He is exactly the sort of player who fills the stadium and gets fans off their seats. To tie him down would be huge, a huge reassurance.

“The money they’d have to pay would be money well spent – it gives Rangers that peace of mind.”

Kent does so much more than most wingers, even if it isn’t his day he will never stop going and never stop working out of possession. His assist for Scott Arfield’s opener on Saturday a typical example of how important he is to our chances of regaining the Scottish Premiership title, so often in 2020/21 he was the player who made the difference.

Aside from the financial loss should he leave after costing £7.5m, replacing him would be no mean feat, he hardly misses a game and can be trusted to carry out the manager’s instructions to perfection, let’s hope he’s around to tear them apart for many years to come.
