Giovanni van Bronckhorst has named his side to start the 2022/23 European campaign in the Champions League 3rd qualifying round first leg game against Union Saint-Gilloise.

Four changes have been made from the side that took to the pitch against Livingston on Saturday with personnel as well as tactical reasons having an impact.

From the weekend, out goes John Souttar, Tom Lawrence, Scott Wright and Ryan Kent who are replaced by James Sands, Ryan Jack, Malik Tillman and Rabbi Matondo.

Stability

In midfield for Rangers is the tried and tested combination of Jack, Glen Kamara and John Lundstram, all stalwarts of the memorable run to Seville last season and for the first two, many tough European encounters previously.

Tillman and Matondo will be given license to attack and to provide the incision for the Gers but it is also important that the whole team endeavours to provide service for Antonio Colak up top. The Croatian was starved in the first half last Saturday but made his mark with the harshly ruled-out offside goal.

That assist came from Ryan Kent who will be a big miss for GvB’s team in Belgium. In his absence, others need to step up and make themselves counted, to be active in the game from the start in order to bring a positive result back to Ibrox.

The Rangers bench contains good quality options for the manager with Allan McGregor, Ridvan Yilmaz, Ben Davies, Steven Davies, Tom Lawrence and Scott Arfield joined by Robby McCrorie, Leon King, Adam Devine, Scott Wright and Fashion Sakala.

Kick-off in Leuven is at 1945 (UK) with live coverage on Premier Sports as well as Rangers TV for those in most other nations abroad.
