No sooner had Vital Rangers suggested that we could soon see the emergence of another academy prospect into a genuine first-team player, than a report is released claiming that Rangers could be losing one of the club’s brightest talents for little more than a development fee.

Robbie Ure, with 20 goals and 8 assists, has been on fine form for the B team this season and, at 18-years old, if he progresses at his current rate, he could well join fellow graduates Leon King, Alex Lowry and Adam Devine.

Surprisingly though, Rangers are rumoured, via Football Insider, to have offered Ure a new deal but on reduced terms, something that would be a huge shock given his performances this season:

“Rangers starlet Robbie Ure wants to quit the club after being offered a new contract on less money, sources have told Football Insider. The forward, 18, is on a deal that expires in the summer and his future his up in the air despite a goal-drenched campaign.

“It is believed that Ure rejected an initial contract offer last month as he has an eye on a potential move in the main summer window.”
I just can’t see it.
Maybe if Ure was in his 30s but, he has his whole career ahead of him and he has been progressing nicely through the age groups, he also scored on his debut for the senior team. Hardly the sort of trajectory that suggests Rangers don’t value him.
There has also never been any talk about Ure causing the club any problems with his attitude or fitness and he, on paper, seems to have everything needed to make it as a decent striker. Of course it is hard to make it as a striker at a club like Rangers but quitting with just one appearance under his belt would be a bitter pill to swallow – even more so if the reported wage offer is accurate.
