Yesterday evening it was being reported that Rangers had returned with an increased offer for Millwall centre-half Jake Cooper.

We’ve been linked with the 23-year-old for a bit now in this transfer window as Steven Gerrard continues making tweaks to the playing staff and if the deal came off, he would be the third centre-back signed by the former Liverpool and England midfielder since he took the job on.

Cooper was impressive last season in the English Championship as Millwall missed out by a few points on a potential Play-Off shot at the Premier League and the Daily Record reported that after being knocked back in our original approach, we’ve returned with an offer they believe to be around the £3million mark.

With David Bates leaving and the expectation that Bruno Alves and Fabio Cardoso will move on this summer, we definitely need at least one more experienced option for the heart of defence and this lad appears to be a more than suitable answer to that question.

A good judge of things is usually how opposition fans react to transfer speculation, and it appears that for some £3million starts to sway thoughts, but plenty think they should hold out for more given his development potential over the next few years.

£5million might swing it if you can put much stock in fan reactions.
