In making James Tavernier club captain for the 2018/19 season, Steven Gerrard has made one of his biggest squad decisions of the summer and plenty of Rangers supporters are delighted with the news.

Tavernier is no stranger to the armband of course, having led to the team out onto the pitch on plenty of occasions last season.

However, with former captain Lee Wallace clashing with the club and being suspended after a bust-up with Graeme Murty, a decision had to be made about which player will lead the team in the Gerrard-era.

The new boss has spoken at length about why he made his decision, believing that Tavernier has shown in the short time he has worked with Gerrard that he is absolutely captain material.

The Liverpool legend would know all about that of course.

Fans are delighted with the news and have taken to Twitter over the last few days to share their thoughts on it all…
