Ross Wilson has, finally, got his finger out and, instead of trying to get the best deal for Rangers financially, has decided that getting the right player in at the right time is more important.

According to Sacha Tovolieri, the Belgian journalist who has had his finger on the Nicolas Raskin transfer saga pulse, Rangers have agreed to a €2million transfer fee plus a 20% sell on clause – whether this is a total clause or percentage of profit is, as yet, unclear.

It was evident again on Saturday that Rangers need a specialist defensive midfielder at the base of our midfield, Michael Beale has praised the players that he has but it looks like he is trying to get them all to play outside of their comfort zones and capabilities.

Todd Cantwell looked an instant upgrade in terms of quality, his movement and the speed at which he moved the ball, already he looks like he will be a good bet for the most fouled player in the league such was his ability to escape pressure.

The length of contract for Raskin is also an indicator of how important he will be to the club, four and a half years is a big commitment and should see us get more than our money’s worth out of the Belgian Under-21 international. It also means that we have a core of younger midfielders and forwards who are tied up for long term as well as the first choice defence.

The fee was the last detail of the Raskin deal to be sorted and if we’re lucky, we could get to meet our new midfield general today – keep your eyes peeled on Rangers social media for hints.
