Todd Cantwell made his Rangers debut just a few days after signing a long-term deal at the club as Michael Beale’s vision of a dynamic attacking team took a step closer to fruition.
Many, including ourselves, thought that the former Norwich City midfielder would have to be content with a place on the bench given his recent lack of game time – he’s not played since November – however, his contribution more than justified his inclusion from the start.
Cantwell took up positions all over the final third, linking play and looking to break St Johnstone’s stuffy defence, he also showed the intelligence to find himself unmarked in the box on more than one occasion only for team-mates not to find him.

Posting on Twitter after the game, Ibrox has clearly made a good first impression with the 24-year old and it looks as though he has found somewhere that suits his considerable talents.
Todd Cantwell insists he will cherish the feeling of his first Ibrox experience for the rest of his life after the midfielder made his debut in today’s victory.

Cantwell didn’t do much wrong in his 60 minutes, contributing at both ends of the park, the highlight being his defence splitting pass to Alfredo Morelos perfectly weighted for the Colombian to just flick it through to the on-rushing Glen Kamara, if this is him rusty and short of minutes, in full flight and up to speed he could prove to be a bargain.
