Rangers plans for a pre-season camp in Portugal have been thrown into doubt due to a government travel restriction update.

With the removal of Portugal from the UK govt ‘Green List’, it makes the logistics and viability of such a trip a lot more difficult.

Last month, VitalRangers reported on plans for a game against Danish side Sondersjyke as part of the initial plan.

That may not happen now, due to the most recent instruction from the authorities.

The Scottish Sun have stated that Rangers could be set for Fife, as an alternate location for the training camp:

“With travel restrictions to the mediterranean resort now in place Rangers might have to remain in Scotland during the close season.”

“SunSport understands the Ibrox outfit are considering the possibility of spending seven days in St Andrews.”

Plan B

Several options will be available in England as well as Rangers own Auchenhowie base.

Some fresh scenery and a break from the normality of the Rangers Training Centre is likely to be preferred, whatever the final scenario.

The club, aware of the situation around restrictions and the possibility of a changing landscape, will have prepared for different outcomes.

A cut-off date shortly will determine the final arrangements and from there, Rangers will be able to communicate fully to the fans, including the programme of games.
