After a rather dull and uneventful afternoon seeing off Raith Rovers, the lives of Rangers fans got a little bit more interesting when Nnamdi Ofoborh set tongues wagging with a series of cryptic social media posts.

The posts have subsequently been deleted, probably due to their ambiguity and potential to paint the club in a bad light, however, rumours of contract termination are way off the mark according to Rangers correspondent Chris Jack in The Herald:

“Rangers have dismissed suggestions that Nnamdi Ofoborh is no longer contracted to the club after he broke his silence on his fitness nightmare.

“But speculation online that he has been released by Rangers is wide of the mark as the club continue to seek specialist advice in the United Kingdom and Europe to help Ofoborh return to action and kick-start his career.”

For those that might have thought it acceptable to criticise Ofoborh for “stealing a wage” it’s maybe worth considering that, at 23-years old, he has had two operations to rectify a cardiac defect.

For two years he hasn’t been able to exercise, never mind train or play games, a professional athlete who, one minute was taking part in pre-season testing, and the next, was being wired up in a hospital bed.

For Ofoborh, the mental struggle will make things ten times worse, unlike Christian Eriksen, he didn’t have an acute episode and in his head would be 100% fit. There was no time to prepare himself for what was about to happen.

Ofoborh seemed altogether more upbeat in the past hopefully, he can one day get back on the pitch whether that be for Rangers or someone else.
