Kent conundrum, time to cut the cord

If ever a week summed up Ryan Kent it was this one.

At Easter Road in mid-week he was pivotal in a 4-1 win that could really have ended up being anything, however, he could also have walked off the pitch with the match ball if he was more composed with his finishing – an issue in all but one of his seasons at the club.

Then, against Raith Rovers, we saw the other side to him. A game in which he should be dominating saw him slow the game down, struggle to get behind the opposition defence and resort to either cutting inside and playing square passes or rolling the ball out to Borna Barisic to cross.

That is the Ryan Kent I have no interest in being at Rangers if we are to progress.

Michael Beale clearly loves Kent and has been quite open about wanting him to stay but we need so much more from a Rangers forward. He needs to score more goals, it’s as simple as that. Six in 80 games isn’t acceptable and he should be embarrassed at seeing defenders in the team with more from open play than him over the same period.

There are too many occasions when the ball is on the right-hand side or there is a counter attack and all Kent is thinking about is recycling the ball if it is cleared, there is no intent to get in at the back post or around the penalty spot, instead, he hangs outside the box. A player in his position playing for a club as dominant as Rangers should be getting five tap-ins a season, at least, and yet, how many times have you seen him score from close range for the club?

I change my mind every week on whether or not I want Kent to stay but, the fact that my biggest reason now is that it would irk me to see him leaving for free rather than being worried about being able to replace him probably tells it’s own story.
