This time last year Rangers fans were excited at the prospect of new additions that might arrive and get us over the line on the way to our 55th title, as it was, our lead was that big the most important thing was keeping hold of the players who had got us into such a strong position.

There were, as always, plenty of rumours and then the trio of Scott Wright, Jack Simpson and Nnamdi Ofoborh were all announced in quick succession, the latter having to wait until the summer before heading north from Bournemouth via Wycome Wanderers.

An ill-fated loan spell saw him miss playing in the Championship ahead of his big move but on arrival at Auchenhowie, things got worse when a problem with his heart was detected on initial testing, there does look to be some light at the end of the tunnel though after the 22-year old midfielder posted on Instagram:

“This year has easily been the toughest year of my life.

“All the depression, anger, sadness and loneliness I’ve experienced but extremely grateful for the support from family, friends and teammates.

“It has been a tough year mentally and physically and as you can see a lot has gone on behind the scenes.

“Many doctors said I’m lucky to be here but I don’t believe in luck but the blessings from God. I owe it all to God for aiding me on this comeback trail. I will be back.

“2022 will have better days for us all. God bless you all and Happy New Year.”

It’s the first real indication that we have had that his career, and indeed his Rangers career, isn’t over before it has started. By declaring that he “will be back” is enough to suggest that better times are around the corner.

As with Kemar Roofe, Filip Helander and Ryan Jack, there would be nothing better than seeing Ofoborh training with his team-mates, Arsene Wenger used to get pelters for talking about players returning from injuries being like new signings but in our case, this group of players would be given how much time they have missed collectively.

Ofoborh in particular is one that fans will be keen to get a glimpse of, a midfielder who earned comparisons to Glen Kamara is an exciting prospect and one that we all wish nothing but the best of luck to – fingers crossed, he’s back sooner, rather than later.
