Rangers are ready to finally make speculation that Steven Davis will return to Ibrox a reality in January, according to The Belfast Telegraph.

The former fan favourite has been consistently linked with an exit from Southampton to move back to Glasgow and it seems it could be a goer according to this week’s report.

The paper say that the deal will initially be on a loan basis with the option to sign him permanently, with the midfielder becoming increasingly disillusioned with his lack of football for Saints.

Davis made 211 appearances for the Gers in his first spell a the club, helping us to win multiple trophies and being an integral part of the side that reached the final of the UEFA Cup in Manchester.

He may be in the latter stages of his career, but he still has quality and would help improve a Rangers midfield that at times looks pretty devoid of creative ideas going forward.

On a loan basis this is something of a no-brainer and hopefully plans are indeed being made to arrange a homecoming for the Northern Ireland international. He may have left at a difficult time, but he can put all that behind him and become a success at Ibrox again.
