Over the duration of previous weeks, Steven Gerrard’s Rangers have been exceedingly active in the transfer market, having made a whole host of signings to try and augment the quality of the team. Despite the flurry of incomings, one of the Gers’ best players has been linked with a move away from Ibrox. Swansea City are reportedly keen on the services of James Tavernier.

According to the Daily Mail, as cited by Wales Online, Swansea City are hoping to sign Rangers’ James Tavernier. The Welsh side are not alone in their interest for the defender; it has emerged that both Newcastle United and Wigan Athletic are eager to sign the talented full-back. Surprisingly, it’s reported that Rangers will accept offers in the region if £3M for his services.

While considering that the Englishman captained the Gers for much of last season, it seems strange that they’re willing for the defender to leave for such an affordable price. Since joining Rangers in 2015, the full-back has ably demonstrated that he’s far more than just a defender. In 125 games for Rangers, the defender has amassed an impressive total of 23 goals, five of which were scored last campaign.

In addition to his valuable goal-scoring exploits, Tavernier is regarded for his tactical adaptability and his versatility. The Englishman is predominantly stationed at right-back, although he can operate as a central defender, or as a defensive midfielder.

At the age of 26, Tavernier possesses the necessary experience and qualities to maintain his status as a crucial player for the Gers. He also has plenty of time before he reaches the pinnacle of his abilities, and it would be utterly nonsensical for the Gers to sell one of their most talented players.
