One of Rangers’ most notable strengths last season was the quality of their attack. The Gers had amassed a splendid total of 76 goals in 38 league games, and consequently, they concluded the season as the division’s best attack. And, it seems, that Rangers are keen to further reinforce their attacking quality with the prospective signing of Jason Cummings from Nottingham Forest.

The 22-year-old spent the second-half of last season on loan with Rangers, and according to the Scotsman, the Gers are interested in signing Cummings on a permanent basis. The forward rose to prominence with Hibernian, where he illustrated his credentials as a proficient goalscorer. During his time with Hibs, Cummings amassed a mightily impressive total of 71 goals in 150 games. Moreover, he scored more than 20 goals in three of his four seasons with Hibernian.

While Cummings hasn’t been as clinical or as ruthless since leaving Easter Road, he’s still an accomplished player who is endowed with great promise. During the first-half of last season, Cummings scored four goals in 17 games for Nottingham Forest. He improved on that tally during his second-half of the campaign on loan at Rangers, where he scored six goals in 18 games.

With greater security and continuous involvement, Cummings could transform into an exceedingly significant member of the Rangers squad. The forward is often commended for his neat passing ability, and his tremendous capacity to retain possession of the ball. That said, there are areas of his game that require refining, such as his positional awareness – the striker has developed a propensity to stray offside. Moreover, he must improve upon his ability to compete aerially.

At the age of 22, Cummings has ample time to address these issues and having amassed 81 career goals; it’s evident that the forward is a talented individual.
