Bealeball improving but still one glaring issue remains

Dominant displays in the capital is starting to become a bit of a trend after our last two trips and as one Rangers fan said on Wednesday night – “can we move to Murrayfield?”

Relocating to Edinburgh probably isn’t an option if we are being realistic, however, our last two trips have been that impressive. Two displays that were as dominant as any that we have seen at Ibrox in recent years.

Nothing is ever perfect though and falling asleep at a set-piece and Connor Goldson failing to make a simple clearance with his weaker foot meant that we were under unnecessary early pressure after what had been a positive start.

With 31 attempts at goal it suggests that we did a lot of things right but, there was also a lot of things that we could have done better.

The single biggest difference between us and Celtic and why they so often see teams off earlier, is because of how many players they commit to the box, as the picture below shows – even though Antonio Colak scores on this occasion – we have five players outside the box to deal with one Hibs player. We need to be more aggressive.

This next phase of play is a better example, Colak gets his shot away but if Nico Raskin, Todd Cantwell and James Tavernier had all made more effort to get into the box then Ryan Kent would have had more options. It’s a small detail but it’s a big one in terms of how it could make us more clinical in the final third without any detriment to our defensive structure.
