Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s passive nature wasn’t what cost us against Ross County, after all, every goal that Ross County scored was put on a plate by a Rangers player, they weren’t dominating possession or opening us up at will.

Nor were the three goals that we conceded because of tactics – the first was because of a speculative cross from the wing that would be claimed by almost every amateur keeper being dropped by Allan McGregor, there is no excuse for that one, not even the wind could be blamed.

The second, was a culmination of three defenders not clearing their lines properly after a hopeful long ball, Calvin Bassey most culpable given the fact all he had to do was make some sort of forward contact.

Finally, the third, after a corner conceded by our own making, McGregor again failed to collect a scuffed effort under little if any pressure, even if he leaves it a Rangers defender clears it.

We scored enough goals and created enough chances to win the game but when your goalkeeper throws two goals in – which is exactly what he did – you will always face an uphill battle.

The tactics were what saw us create so many good chances on a day where playing attractive football shouldn’t have been possible and yet we found a way, all McGregor had to do was make two simple saves that he makes every day of the week in training and in every game.

Allan McGregor is a club legend and arguably the best to ever wear the number one jersey, he was, however, totally at fault for us dropping two points against Ross County and I can guarantee he is big enough to have held his hand up after the game to accept that.
