Scotland manager Steve Clarke spoke earlier this week about Robby McCrorie’s surprise inclusion in his squad after team-mate Jon McLaughlin had to pull out through injury, the national team boss has obviously been impressed when he has bee drafted in in the past.

There is one obvious problem in that the 24-year old is currently third choice at Rangers, he is getting to the age where he needs to be playing games.

McCrorie has always been highly rated at Rangers though, spending almost every season out on loan and earning plaudits in the process, he did suffer α dip in form at Livingston, however, it was always going to happen at some point given his position, even the best keepers have been through α few lows at some point in their careers.

Speaking to Go Radio via Football Scotland, Barry Ferguson thinks that McCrorie has the potential to go all the way but that he isn’t doing himself any favours sitting on the bench at Rangers:

“I think he has the potential to be a Rangers number one in the future, and Scotland.

“But he has to go and get that experience. He’s only played two first team games for Rangers so he can to go out and play.

“If he does that, he’ll improve, as I think he has all the attributes to be a top goalkeeper. If that means leaving a big club for six months, 12 months, go and get the experience.”

Up until his last season out on loan, it seemed like his destiny was to replace Allan McGregor, even after his two games against Alashkert and Celtic in 2021/22 he showed all the maturity and composure needed to be the long-term solution to the problem that is replacing α genuine legend.

Leaving would be α difficult decision for someone who has been at the club all his life and someone who has been so close to fulfilling α lifelong dream.
