Rangers have grown exponentially this season, both on and off the pitch with a series of high profile commercial agreements adding much needed funds to the coffers.

Another run to the last 16 of the Europa League, added to winning the Scottish Premiership title for a record 55th time, has seen the club’s standing and reputation be restored almost to it’s former glory and, speaking to Football Insider, football finance expert, Kieran Maguire, believes that following a model similar to that of Manchester United is the way forward to maximise revenue:

“It’s indicative of the interest in the club. That’s a big positive.

“Provided there isn’t overlap between the sponsorship areas, then the more the merrier. Man United are really the masters in this area.

“They’ve got their telephone partner in Indonesia, Taiwan, Nigeria and so on. So you can break the market down by product or geographically, or by a combination of the two.

“There are still opportunities for Rangers to continue to develop their commercial relationships with partners. If they get into Europe, things are just going to ramp up. People want their products connected to eyeballs.

“The Champions League gets the attention of the whole of Europe. So any club that is regularly appearing in the Champions League is a big draw.”

There has been a huge difference in the number of commercial partners secured since James Bisgrove arrived at the club and it couldn’t have come at a better time given the current economic crisis facing football clubs across the continent, Maguire is right, the Europa League opens doors, but the Champions League smashes them down in terms of earning potential.
