Time for optimism with Gers duo set to return

Before the international break I said that things were beginning to look a little brighter and until the 90th minute against Hearts I was right.

Result aside, the performance was our best of the season but, not only that, Steven Gerrard has confirmed what we predicted – we don’t have long to wait until both Ryan Kent and Ryan Jack return to the Rangers squad.

Speaking as part of his preparations for Brondby, we knew that neither would be available for this game, however, Kent could be back as early as St Mirren this weekend and Jack will be back in full training for Aberdeen next week.

Now, this isn’t to say that both will be starting but, if they are in full training, they are available for selection – if that isn’t good news, I don’t know what is.

It isn’t just on the park that their return will be noticed, they are notoriously hard workers in training, Jack in particular is known as a “standard setter” by the gaffer and Kent – as he does on a match day – drags others up around him.

Sometimes having players missing can be used as an excuse for an underperforming side but in the case of Kent and Jack, plus Filip Helander, we have three of our best players all unavailable. Three players who don’t just do their individual job well but inspire those around them to perform to a higher level.

If we can beat Brondby, we are back on track for the season and still in a good position in the Europa League and domestically, with Kent and Jack’s return on the horizon the place should be buzzing, despite what some might say, it’s an exciting time to be a Gers fan.
