Steven Gerrard’s decision making for the visit of Brondby will be a lot easier given that some of his players who were away on international duty have had a few more days training and recovery time.

Kemar Roofe, in particular, must have cut a frustrated figure on Saturday, watching his team-mates miss chance after chance before getting the opportunity to come off the bench.

Last time out, against Sparta Prague, the gaffer sprung a surprise when Fashion Sakala started and Alfredo Morelos had to be content with a place on the bench, despite the Colombian’s form, it would still be a surprise if we saw a repeat of this decision.

This is the team I think Gerrard will go with as Rangers look to get off the mark and get their first three points on the board:

The defence almost picks itself given Filip Helander’s absence with Allan McGregor unlikely to be dropped for his howler against Hearts, he, of all people, has plenty of credit in the bank.

With Glen Kamara suspended and John Lundstram in such good form, the obvious move is to bring Steven Davis back into a central role with Joe Aribo, the Englishman moving to a more advanced position – unless we see a repeat of the 4231 formation that seemed to be used against Hearts.

Hopefully it is just a matter of time before things click up front and, with Ryan Kent still missing, our strongest three remains Ianis Hagi behind Roofe and Morelos, who will be hoping for an early opportunity to silence his critics.

Fingers crossed they have their shooting boots or it could be another long night.
