Glen Kamara has almost summed Rangers up over the last 18-months, he’s either been brilliant or borderline useless. There’s been no happy medium.

We all know what he is capable of, which is the biggest frustration because we just haven’t seen it often enough. As if to further demonstrate this, the 27-year old has been rewarded by being named as Finland’s men’s national team’s player of the year.

The formation that Finland play benefits Kamara in that it allows him to demonstrate his best qualities, a 3-5-2 system means that he has the freedom to link the defence and midfield as well as provide cover for attacking wing-backs. He has never been a defensive or attacking midfielder, and yet, he is one of our best players when it comes to technical ability.

Kamara would have been at the top of most Rangers fans’ lists for who they thought might be heading out the door in January, however, with Michael Beale arriving and Andy Halliday claiming that the Fin is a favourite of the new manager, I’d expect to see him starting more often than he isn’t for the remainder of the season.

His lack of minutes would no doubt have had an effect on his potential transfer fee but, after the last European Championships and form in the Europa League on our run to the final, he has shown on plenty of occasions that he can be trusted to handle the ball against top midfielders – a one time valuation of £20million might he excessive but there is no reason why the £10m rumoured to be the figure needed in the summer isn’t achievable should we decide to cash in.

Hopefully, in the coming months, we see the Kamara that Finland has seen rather than the one that was taken off at half-time in his last game for Rangers.
