It looked for all the money in the world that Alfredo Morelos was going to leave Rangers last summer after a £16.5million bid from Lille was revealed to have been offered by the Ligue 1 side’s president.

We all know how that saga ended, with El Bufalo leading the line on our way to the Scottish Premiership title but the rumour mill has kicked into gear once again, this time it is Porto who are said to be leading the chase for the Colombian international’s signature.

With fees between £9m and £15m being quoted, we have yet to see anything close to the magical £20m mark that has long been the club’s valuation, with former European Golden Boot winner, Kevin Phillips, claiming the current figures are way too low for such an impressive player, when asked by Football Insider about the reported bids:

“Yeah, it does.

“If Rangers were a Premier League club they could probably demand £30million for him.

“It’s a little bit cheap, Rangers will want £20million I’d imagine. That would be a serious offer that they could consider.

“Rangers won’t let him go on the cheap, let’s put it that way. They will hang on and get the best price possible. £13million is cheap for him.”

Phillips is right, not only because Rangers won’t want to undersell a key player but because it sets. marker for future negotiations, we have been famously bad at making money from transfers and that has to change if we are to maintain our current success.
