Rangers were recently linked with an audacious move to sign Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard by TEAMtalk, with a potential short-term loan deal being used to get the forgotten man into the shop window.

The 24-times capped England midfielder has yet to feature for his club in either the Premier League or Champions League but, in an interview with Football Insider, Kevin Campbell feels that it would be an option that the player would be silly to turn down, if it is presented:

“It would be a great move for Lingard. The Old Firm clubs are massive. They are global juggernauts.

“Jesse Lingard needs to play football, if we are honest.

“He could go up there and whichever club he would join, he would be a fantastic addition. He would be a big asset to one of those teams because he is a very gifted player.”

Despite struggling for form over the last couple of seasons, Lingard could be the perfect loan deal, Steven Gerrard loves his players to be versatile and be able to play more than one position, and in that respect the 28-year old is very similar to Scott Arfield, in that he could be deployed either in midfield or in the forward line given the way that we set up and depending on who we are playing.

Lingard?

It’s a rumour that has gone quiet over the last week or so but as we have seen in the past with Ross Wilson since he arrived at the club, there is very little that makes it into the press before a transfer is signed and sealed – on a six-month loan, this is as low risk as you can get and, you never know, with the end of his contract approaching, he might just like what he sees and decide to stick around.
