Rangers standing by for £3m valued winger as club waits to announce new arrival

|

A report in Football Insider claims that Rangers haven’t given up hope of signing Newcastle United’s Jacob Murphy and that the winger could be allowed to leave once reinforcements have been secured.

This may be sooner rather than later with Ryan Fraser expected to put pen to paper on a Bosman move in the next 24 hours having left Bournemouth earlier in the summer.

According to the site, Murphy is valued at £3million and is entering the final year of his contract, despite this, the Magpies are said to be open to a loan move for the former England youth cap.

Competition is fierce for the 25-year old with Sheffield Wednesday, Stoke City and Nottingham Forest all looking to acquire his services, Murphy spent last season on loan at the Owls and they would fancy their chances of getting him back after he scored nine goals and created six assists in his 44 appearances.

Newcastle – according to the report – are looking for any interested parties to cover Murphy’s £40,000 a week salary as well as stumping up a £1m loan fee, however, this is purely speculation and Rangers would be unlikely to go that high on wages but it would put them in pole position to make the signing permanent with the player able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with Rangers months before he could do the same in England.

Steven Gerrard is looking to add one or two more quality additions to the squad and a player who cost £12m just a few seasons ago would certainly be capable of causing Premiership defenders problems, if he can get the deal over the line.
