Rangers in race to sign Wilshere as reports continue to link England star with move to Ibrox

|

Rangers have emerged as serious contenders to sign recently released West Ham midfielder, Jack Wilshere, after reports continued to circulate that they are interested in a potential deal.

TalkSPORT claims that a deal for the England international “cannot be ruled out” and whilst the former Arsenal man has not had his fitness troubles to seek, it is worth remembering that he is still only 28-years old, breaking into the Gunners first team at 16 has only served to make it seem like he has been around forever.

The first, and most obvious, thing to consider is his injury history, he has had one injury free season since 2011, and it hasn’t been minor injuries he has had either, fractures are interspersed with surgery to his ankles and his knee.

If, and it’s a big if, Rangers are interested, it would represent his best option to continue playing at the highest level, maybe not in terms of league stature but the opportunity to play in the Europa League and to play for a world famous club with elite level facilities.

There is also the chance to play at the same club as two of his heroes in the shape of Steven Gerrard and Jermain Defoe, the pulling power of two English greats shouldn’t be underestimated when you are looking through the eyes of a West Ham fan.

There are enough midfielders to allow Wilshere to be rotated should he decide to head to Ibrox, however, his biggest obstacle could be avoiding some of the tackles that Scottish referees allow hammer throwing opponents to get away with on an all too frequent basis – just ask Ryan Kent what state his ankles are in after every game – and his aren’t held together with metal pins and screws.
