Anyone can look good on YouTube, even the most average of amateur footballers probably has a highlight reel that would make them look like a star, however, Todd Cantwell has more than a selection of clips of him doing step-overs.

The former Norwich City midfielder has a long list of admirers who have been speaking about what he will bring to Rangers, comparisons with James Maddison are encouraging as are Brian Laudrup’s comments about how exciting a signing it is.

Those that watched Cantwell in the Premier League know exactly what he is capable of but, if you needed anymore persuasion that we have won a watch, former Canaries gaffer Gary Holt, via The Daily Record, has explained just what we are getting with the England Under-21 international:

“Todd ain’t going to tackle or win many headers. He hates heading the ball. He’d rather run a mile than head a ball! He’s never liked heading a ball.

“I hate tagging players but he’s a luxury player, one of those luxury players at the top end of the pitch who if you give him the ball he will create goals out of nothing.

“He’d be outstanding at home for Rangers. The big stage, the big crowd. That’s his element.”

Thankfully, Cantwell’s job won’t be to head the ball and that you’d like to think Michael Beale will set us up to make sure we are getting the ball to his feet, after all, we don’t really shell high balls up to Ryan Kent either. Look at Laudrup too, I think he headed the ball once in his time at Rangers, having said that, it wasn’t a bad effort from the Dane.

In a team that doesn’t control possession, you can’t afford “luxury” players, but we can, we need players who can create something out of nothing and who will cause opposition defences problems.

Almost every former team-mate, manager or pundit I’ve seen has backed Cantwell to be exciting and to be a success, they’ve also commented on how he loves the big occasion, well, it doesn’t get much bigger than playing for Rangers every week.
