They had one job to do – Interim bosses in Gers selection blunder

Personally, I thought it was a relatively simple task.

You look at the team that has scored ten goals in the last two games, see what worked and pick the same eleven players again – right?

Well, not according to the B team staff that were in charge for our semi-final at Hampden who decided to go with an out of sorts Alfredo Morelos over a striker who has two hat-tricks in as many weeks.

That Ianis Hagi also found himself on the bench after recent performances was a surprise and a decision that backfired as we struggled to break down a loaded Hibs defence that was buoyant from the three goal lead we gifted them.

It’s safe to say that it would be a surprise to see Morelos starting against Sparta Prague, kicking the ball straight out of play once is, almost, forgiveable, twice? Not so much.

The whole point of having two players for each position is so that if one is out of form, there is someone who can come in and replace them, the annoying thing is that it’s our key men from last season that are most culpable.

Allan McGregor, Connor Goldson, James Tavernier, Steven Davis, Glen Kamara, Alfredo Morelos – forgive me if I’ve missed any out, the list really could have been endless.

It would be impossible to drop all of them but I’d expect at least three of them to be watching from the sidelines at Ibrox on Thursday night, Giovanni van Bronckorst looked far from impressed at what he was seeing – if that was them trying to impress their new gaffer, they went about it in an incredibly strange manner.
