Rangers are facing the same problem as clubs up and down the country in that there will be a Covid-19 sized black hole to fill in the finances this summer.

Thankfully, our squad is in much better shape than it was a few years ago and reaching the last 16 of the Europa League has also been a huge benefit, however, there will have to be at least one big name player sold when the transfer window opens again and, speaking to Football Insider, Noel Whelan believes that Glen Kamara could be that man:

“He’s one that Steven Gerrard wants to tie down to a new contract and rightly so.

“But the way this season’s been in terms of Covid, bills, the running of the club, maybe one player has to leave to cover those losses.

“Maybe that’s a realisation that they need to get £10-15m in the bank to make up for the money they’ve lost. They might just have to sacrifice one player.

“If you can get that then great. But at the same time you know you’re weakening your side by losing a key player. But at times like this, you’ve got to look after the club first.

“There will be a queue for a player like that, a specialist in the midfield area and the sort of player you need to win any kind of Championship.”
With the European Championships on the horizon, there could be a couple of Rangers players that attract a lot of attention and Kamara is likely to be right at the top of the list for clubs around the continent capable of contributing to both defence and attack.

Who would you rather sell?

Glen Kamara

Alfredo Morelos

Alfredo Morelos

Borna Barisic

With Nnamdi Ofoborh being likened to the Finland international, it may be that Ross Wilson is preparing for the inevitable – which also softens the blow if he does leave – the sort of transfer recruitment that will stand us in good stead over the next few years as we look to turn success into dominance.
