Rangers have been given a major boost today with the words of midfield maestro Steven Davis on his plans for next season.

The veteran Northern Ireland international basically laughed off the thought of retirement and insisted that he is loving his football at present.

Given his form this season, it would appear to be a forgone conclusion that Davis will be offered terms for another 12 months at Ibrox.

At the press conference today, he was asked about he long he is likely to be able to play on for, to which Davis responded:

“I don’t like to look too far ahead, I feel good at the minute and I’m enjoying my football at the minute, how could you not with the season we have had so far?”

“I don’t see myself finishing up at the end of the season.”

“My approach has been the same as the clubs, trying to concentrate on the football first and foremost, to get ourselves into a position first.”

“I’ve got a very open relationship with the gaffer and Ross (Wilson) at the club. We’re always talking about different scenarios so I’m not under any pressure or worried about the situation moving forward.”

The 36-year old with 124 caps and counting for his country added, on the prospect of a return to Champions League action next season as an incentive for more:

“Of course, listen it would be massive for everybody at the club and the players are no different.”

“To play on and get a taste of that at my age would be very nice.”

That is something that all in the Rangers camp would agree with and given the fine form that Davis has displayed this season, he would not look out of place on the big stage.
