Rangers finally completed Glen Kamara’s contract extension this week, tying the Finland international down for the next four years, if nobody meets the club’s valuation of him that is.

It’s one of many boxes that Ross Wilson needs to tick, with Connor Goldson at the top of a list that has several key players’ names on it, and, speaking to Football Insider, former Gers manager, Alex McLeish reckons that the news about Kamara could inspire others to follow suit:

“It’s really great news to have him tied down after all the speculation and rumours about the Premier League interest.

“I think he really loves Rangers, and the contract proves that.

“I’m sure it’s a good contract for the player as well, as the club are in a good position at the moment.

“It could give inspiration to others at the club – not only to give great performances consistently as Kamara does.

“There’s also the fact that he’s snubbed the interest from a bigger league and bigger money.

“It’s a really good message for his teammates.”

McLeish is right, Kamara was probably the one player that every Rangers fan thought would be heading out the door so to see him extend his contract has been a huge bonus and one that should see a few pounds added to his value at the same time, he is finally going to be getting paid a wage that reflects his status under Steven Gerrard.

Hopefully it does inspire the likes of Goldson, who really needs to decide what he is doing so that he can concentrate on his football, as with a few players in the team, he hasn’t been performing anywhere near to his usual standard – against Dundee, he was as poor as he’s been in a Rangers shirt.

Kamara will one day leave and for all that his part in 55 will always be remembered, it just good to know that he might be remembered for how much money he made us too rather than leaving in a cut-price deal way below his worth.
